Q&A with Camilo Patrignani, Head of Infrastructure

Head of Infrastructure Camilo Patrignani reflects on his 17-year journey within Libra Group’s ecosystem, sharing his path into renewable energy and insights on leadership.
[September 10, 2025]
You joined Libra Group in 2008 and have held several roles within the ecosystem. Tell us about your journey and what has kept you at Libra Group.
I was first introduced to Libra Group in 2003, when it was founded, through collaborations with senior executives on various initiatives. In 2008, I officially joined as Group Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Libra Group’s real estate arm in South America. This required relocating from New York to Buenos Aires, where the subsidiary was headquartered, for approximately 18 months. It was an incredible experience during globally challenging times, which ultimately proved highly successful and formative.
After returning to New York, I was promoted to Head of Americas and was tasked with the goal to grow our presence in the region. Given our deep expertise in real estate and energy, I was closely involved in establishing our subsidiaries Greenwood Sustainable Infrastructure (GSI), Greenwood Energy (GWE), and Elandis.
In 2014, I transitioned into the role of full-time CEO of GWE, (then encompassing Libra Group’s consolidated renewable energy investments in the Americas, which were subsequently divided into GSI and GWE), before ultimately assuming my current position as Head of Infrastructure at Libra Group.
Today, I oversee the strategic growth and activity of our renewable energy and infrastructure portfolio, which includes operations across three continents.
I have been with Libra Group for 17 years, and what has kept me here is the combination of strong relationships and shared values that foster a positive work environment, a culture that is both meritocratic and fair, and an entrepreneurial spirit that encourages continuous growth and learning.
You now are Head of Infrastructure at Libra Group, which includes overseeing the Group’s three renewable energy companies. What led you to pursue a career in renewable energy and infrastructure?
I have always viewed energy infrastructure as being very “credit-like,” which aligned closely with my professional background prior to joining Libra Group. Earlier in my career, I worked for financial institutions including Fortress and UBS, where I gained valuable exposure to the energy sector by working on several energy-related transactions. At that time, Europe was experiencing a boom in solar and wind generation, and Libra Group was an early investor through its European renewable energy subsidiary, EuroEnergy. By the early 2010s, it was evident that this boom in renewables would also reach the United States, as it eventually did. Leveraging Libra Group’s expertise and my experience in the industry, we began evaluating opportunities in the Americas, which led to the creation of GSI and GWE.
How do you tailor your leadership to align with local values while maintaining a cohesive global strategy?
I believe in leading by example and building strong, trusted relationships with the management teams I work with. Oftentimes, I rely on the local teams to guide me through cultural nuances and communication styles. Having lived in Latin America, the U.S., and Europe, I’ve developed a strong foundation for understanding cultural perspectives in those regions.
Effective leadership in a global organization requires mental flexibility, a willingness to connect at a human level, prioritizing travel for in-person meetings, and being able to listen more than you speak. Above all, face-to-face interaction remains invaluable and is deeply embedded in Libra Group’s culture.
What advice would you give to young professionals interested in the energy or infrastructure industries?
There have been many lessons learned, and many more still to come, but three in particular stand out. First, build lasting relationships with like-minded people in the industry and always show kindness and respect. This is invaluable and transcends sectors. Second, work both hard and efficiently—this is essential for long-term success. Finally, embrace continuous learning and cultivate deep specialization to not only sharpen expertise, but also to create lasting professional value.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
While my professional responsibilities keep me very busy, I greatly value spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading non-fiction books, with particular interest in history, technology, biographies, and business. I stay active through fitness, with a passion for both road and mountain biking.
