Miami Dade College joins forces with Libra Group

Miami Dade College (MDC) has become the latest partner in Libra Group’s international internship program. As an international business group that controls 30 subsidiaries operating across five continents, Libra promotes opportunity and education for young people through numerous outreach initiatives. In this latest development, the company now takes up to 100 interns per annum, including students from Miami Dade College.

Five successful MDC students will start at Libra in one of its global locations in January 2015 for the spring and summer semesters, gaining practical workplace experience and life skills that will lead to better employment prospects. In addition, the fixed-term and structured program brings intern students into contact with professionals in the field, while they receive on-the-job training and coaching to develop confidence and core skills. This helps to broaden and explore career horizons as well as establish a new network of professional contacts.

Applications are invited from students enrolled in the college’s School of Business, Culinary Institute, and School of Engineering and Technology, and all must meet a series of requirements, including a 3.0 minimum GPA to qualify. Students have the opportunity to work in a number of major world cities including London, New York, Buenos Aires, Beijing, and Athens. Libra Group will also provide financial assistance towards the travel and living expenses of all students in the program.

With more than 165,000 students, Miami Dade College is the largest institution of higher education in the United States, and one of the country’s most highly regarded learning destinations. A state-supported college with seven campuses, two centers and numerous outreach centers, Miami Dade was founded with the idea that anyone with a desire to get a college degree should be given that opportunity. By the 1970s, almost 66% of its students were minorities and 56% were women.

Libra is primarily focused on five core sectors: shipping, aviation, real estate, hospitality, and energy, with further selected ‘diversified investments’ outside those areas. The group, wholly-owned by the Logothetis family, is committed to an array of social responsibility and educational initiatives and opportunities, which include Libra Internship Program and a number of fellowships throughout the world.
