[May 7, 2026] — lomarlabs, the venture catalyst created by Lomar Shipping, one of Libra Group’s maritime subsidiaries, and Bennu have launched the world’s first extended at-sea pilot of a methane removal system, marking a major milestone for maritime hashtag#decarbonization.
The 12-month pilot on a Lomar supramax (57,000-dwt) bulk carrier will test Bennu’s compact device that permanently eliminates fugitive methane emissions. The system uses advanced photochemistry to destroy methane molecules before they can trap heat in the atmosphere.
The new deployment builds on Bennu’s earlier dock side tests, conducted in 2024, where the company first demonstrated its UV-based methane destruction technology on a Lomar vessel while in port.
As methane regulations accelerate and alternative fuel adoption grows, innovations like this have the potential to transform how the industry tackles emissions, delivering both environmental impact and commercial value.
